GMI Transitional Homes

At GMI, we recognize the unique challenges faced by our youth as they transition into adulthood. That's why we have established the GMI Transitional Homes program, designed specifically for those who turn 18 and are ready to move from our children's homes into a more independent living arrangement. This program is a critical step in our continuum of care, ensuring that our youth have the support they need to successfully navigate the transition to adult life.

Continued Education and Employment Opportunities: In our family-based transitional living program, young adults continue to develop independent living skills while having the opportunity to complete their Senior High education. We actively facilitate their progress into higher education or vocational training, depending on their aspirations and the availability of scholarships. For those not immediately continuing education, we assist in finding employment opportunities within the local area, enabling them to gain practical work experience and start building their careers.

Long-Term Support and Engagement: A key component of our program is fostering long-term connections with our graduates. Many of our older youth who have moved on to university education or have learned a trade choose to remain involved with GMI. They often give back by providing in-kind services, sharing their skills and knowledge with younger residents, and helping to enrich the program that supported them. This ongoing engagement creates a supportive community and reinforces our family-like atmosphere, ensuring that former residents know they always have a place at GMI.

Empowerment Through Independence: The goal of GMI Transitional Homes is not just to provide a place to live, but to empower our young adults to become self-sufficient and responsible citizens. By equipping them with the necessary life skills and supporting their educational and career endeavors, we help pave the way for a successful and independent future.
